Currently Geneva Rock has an application to rezone 189 acres in to Draper City. Currently Geneva rock is 211 acres, and looking to expand their operation by 72.9 acres placing the other part land in a conservation easement. This will change the zoning and land use permit to allow mining on 72.9 acres which increase their operation by 34 percent.
They are also asking for a text amendment changing their activity from conditional use to permitted. This will streamline Geneva’s operations and possible limit the City’s ability to require mitigation of the impacts of their operations. There is nothing currently in the development agreement as of July 12thto address air quality issues this additional mining might cause to Draper. I stand strong on my view of the importance of clean air in Draper, Bluffdale, Riverton, Lehi and throughout the state. I will vote to secure the best air quality for the residents I represent. Creating a pollution fee environment for the people I represent is one of my top priorities.
